How it works
A week with Yard Letter
Most avails are right on Monday and wrong by Wednesday. Here's a week where yours stays right.
-
Monday
Count what's ready.
Tap counts in on your phone, type them in at the office, or print a count sheet and keep your clipboard.
-
Tuesday
The crew keeps it right.
Sold a few off the lot? Moved some to retail? Whoever did it taps it in, and your avail updates as they go. Nothing waits for the end of the day.
-
Wednesday
Send it out.
Email your buyers your avail's link from your own email. They see what's ready at their prices. Their page stays current after you send it.
-
Thursday
A buyer orders.
They check what's ready and send you a request. No login, no phone tag, no 'do you still have…' calls.
-
Friday
Confirm it.
Nothing's final until you say so. Confirm, and the count comes off on its own.
Built light, on purpose
Yard Letter works alongside what you already do. Anyone on your crew can update your availability from their phone, so it stays accurate. Ready the day you start.
Keep your growing plans.
You know your crops better than any software. Yard Letter doesn't do propagation or forecasting. Add a short note to a plant, like 'more in May,' and buyers see it on your avail.
Keep your register.
Yard Letter is built for wholesale. If the retail lot is most of your business, a register like Square fits better, and plenty of growers run both.
Keep QuickBooks.
Invoice the way you do now. Yard Letter handles the avail and the orders that come off it, and your books stay where they are.
Questions before you start
What does Yard Letter cost?
For founding growers this fall: nothing until March 1, then $49 a month, the founding price. That's one price for your whole nursery and crew. You won't pay anything unless you decide to keep it.
Is there a contract, and who owns my data?
No contract. It's month to month, and you can stop anytime by emailing me. Your data is yours. I don't sell it, and I never show it to another grower. If Yard Letter isn't for you, I'll send you everything in Excel so you can pick up right where you left off.
Who sees my prices? Can different customers see different prices?
You get three price lists, like Landscaper or Re-wholesale. Need more? Just ask. Each price list has its own link, and you email it to that list's customers, so they see only those prices, always current. I never show your prices to another grower, and I don't sell them.
How does getting started work? What's a founding grower?
Founding growers are the first nurseries to use Yard Letter. You get free setup, the founding price, and a direct line to me, and what you tell me shapes what gets built next.
Getting started is simple: send me the avail you use now, and I'll set up your account within a few days. You tell me which customers get which prices and who on your crew needs a login, then check everything before any customer sees it. I'll help get it onto your crew's phones too, with no app to download.
What does Yard Letter do today? Does it work with QuickBooks?
Yard Letter keeps your wholesale avail up to date and handles the orders that come off it. Your crew updates counts from the yard or the office, your customers see what's available at their prices, and they send you order requests to confirm. A QuickBooks Online connection is planned for winter. Use different software? Let me know.
Can my crew update inventory from the field, even with bad signal?
Yes. Your crew updates counts right from their phones out in the yard. If there's no signal, counts save on the phone and go in the next time the app is open with signal. Prefer paper? Print a count sheet, fill it in by hand, and enter it at the office later.
Do my landscapers need an account?
No. You email each price list's link to its customers from your own email. They tap it, see what's available at their prices, and send you an order request, with no login or password to remember. Like an emailed price list, it works for whoever has it. If it ever ends up with the wrong person, you can replace that list's link and the old one stops working; then email the new one to that list's customers.
Can my avail go on my website, even if I don't manage it?
Yes. Turn on your public avail page and it's always current, with nothing to update on your site. Add it to your website with one line of code. Send it to whoever runs your site, or I'll help. No website? Share the page's link directly. Prices stay hidden unless you turn them on, and you can hide quantities too. Customers still order through the links you send them.
Who's behind Yard Letter, and how do I get help?
I'm Brendan. I've spent my career in pricing, from wholesale distributor price lists to e-commerce. I also might have a problem with how many trees I've planted in my yard. Yard Letter is where the two meet. I'm not a grower myself, so I'm learning the business from the people who are, and building Yard Letter in Minnesota around how they actually work. It's new, and for now I set up every grower myself. You'll hear back from me within a day: brendan@yardletter.com or the number below.
Get an avail that's still right in the spring rush
Yard Letter is new, and I'm building it with its first growers this fall. Want to be one of them?
-
Email me the avail you send out now. A PDF, a spreadsheet, whatever you've got.
-
I'll look it over and reply within a day to make sure it fits how you sell. If it does, I'll set it up free: your plants, sizes and prices, ready to update from your phone.
-
Try it with your own stock, free until March 1. Founding price is $49/mo after that.
